When installing wood plastic composite handrails (WPC railings), it is important to pay attention to the following points to ensure installation quality and safety:
1. Measurement and Design Planning: Before installation, accurately measure the installation location to ensure that the length, width, height, and angle of the handrail meet design requirements, and make installation marks.
2. Fixing the Base: Wood-plastic handrails need a stable base. When installing the base on the floor or wall, ensure to use appropriate expansion bolts or wood screws to prevent the handrail from loosening or falling.
3. Leave Space for Thermal Expansion: Wood-plastic materials are significantly affected by temperature. During installation, leave a certain amount of space for thermal expansion at both ends and connection points to avoid deformation or cracking due to temperature changes. Normally, we suggest 1cm-2cm space. Without space, WPC slats would squeeze each other at connection points when the temperature is high, which might finally crack.
4. Waterproof Treatment: Although WPC materials have some water resistance, necessary waterproof treatment should be applied for outdoor installations, especially at connection points and fixed screw locations to prevent water infiltration that could lead to rust or corrosion.
5. Use Suitable Installation Accessories: Use installation accessories and screws recommended by the manufacturer to ensure the sturdiness and safety of the wood-plastic handrail. Pay special attention to the durability of connection and support components.
6. Even Reinforcement and Inspection: Ensure even force distribution when installing the handrail and that all fixing points are secure. After installation, check all connection points to ensure there are no looseness issues.
7. Prevent Surface Scratches: The surface of wood-plastic handrails is relatively fragile; handle carefully during installation to avoid scratches, impacts, or bumps from hard objects that could affect aesthetics.
8. Regular Maintenance: After installation, while daily maintenance requirements are low, it is advisable to clean regularly and check for any looseness or corrosion to extend the lifespan.
9. Choose Solid WPC Handrail: If you have a sufficient budget, you are suggested to choose solid WPC handrail strips, because solid WPC handrail has a longer service life time in outdoor environment.
By addressing these installation details, you can effectively enhance the performance and safety of wood-plastic handrails.
